My husband Ken downloaded Mike's sermon but hasn't had a chance to listen to it yet. I got to listen to it this morning and I told Ken that he would really get a lot from it. It is so right to say that leaders of all sorts have their own stuff to deal with but God does seem to give each of them something special and somewhat unique to offer to those they minister to.
I was also struck by the connection between wanting to help in a certain area and having a proclivity to fall in that same area. I am really going to give that a ton of thought. I never really made the connection but maybe and this is just me working through my thoughts as I go so please don't look at it as a concrete concept I believe or something that couldn't use some tweaking.
When Mike mentioned the areas of service some people get into and then how their sin is oftentimes associated with that same area of service, I began to wonder if the concern for the people was there first and the weakness or sin was secondary or if the person had a weakness in that area already and their attraction to serving in a specific area was driven by something unhealthy although maybe unknown to them at the time. Maybe they saw their concern as genuine or I don't know but it makes me think how important it is to get with our stuff and be healthy to a degree before we go out to serve specifically in an area and to really examine ourselves and our motives. I just think it's a connection that deserves some looking into. Some of the people that set out to do great things aren't necessarily Christians either and are doing much of it to enhance their professional careers and in those cases, I can see why the fall. They are not aware of the battle going on. It's probably not an across-the-board concept though and would be tough to trace.
Mike and Carolyn love what they do and they have something to offer to us to help us grow and I appreciate that. Lisa you're so right. You have to take what works for you and let that be a catalyst to growth. My husband subcontracts at WPAFB for The University of Dayton's Research Institute and he gets so many good articles off the net while he's on his lunch hour. He emails them home to me and I take what applies for me and go on. He also has these awesome conversations with his co-workers. Some of those guys have been there for a long long time and they really help him with wisdom-type things. There was so much in that sermon this weekend that it will take me at least a week to digest it. So Mike always gets to be ahead of us by at least a week. That must be weird. I wonder if others are ahead of him that he gleans from when it comes to soaking something in. And then sometimes, I'll be thinking about something and I go to church or listen to a sermon and there saying pretty much the same thing. It's cool and shows the Holy Spirits movement. Anyway, I gotta go. Have a good day
