Worship This Week
personal integrity

5-11 mainHealthy eating and exercise matter but can't prevent the second-hand pollutants that cause disease and distress. This world's moral and mental pollutants are just as dangerous! Yet, James calls us to lead unpolluted lives--healthy food for the mind, sobriety for the soul, and the focus on sacrificial service that fulfills God's purpose. Join us in worship for A FAITH THAT WORKS: personal integrity. Missed a message? Watch online, or pick up a message DVD for $5 or CD for $2 in the bookstore.
Graduation Weekend
Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18

graduationJoin us at one of the weekend worship celebrations on May 17 or 18 at the Main Campus as we honor those who have graduated from high school or college this year. A special message and gift are in store for each graduate, so mark that weekend on the calendar and invite your family and friends to attend. No pre-registration is necessary.

SPECIAL WEEKEND WITH MIKE BOWIE!
Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1 @ all Main Campus Celebrations
mike staff pic
On Friday, April 25, Pastor Mike Bowie sadly informed Pastor Mike Slaughter
that his full recovery will take many more months than originally anticipated.
After much prayer, he and wife Jeannette made the decision that they should
return to Houston, Texas in early June to continue Mike's recovery surrounded
by their extended families and lifelong friends. We mourn Pastor Bowie's
departure and also celebrate the incredible God-impact he and the Bowie family
have made on our Ginghamsburg faith-community. Be sure to join us in weekend
worship on May 31 or June 1, as Pastor Bowie takes the platform with Pastor
Slaughter to celebrate the past, embrace the present and pray for the future.
At our South Campus venues, enjoy this time with Mike and Mike via video. We will also share that weekend about a special way the Ginghamsburg Church community can come around the
Bowies at this time of transition.

Read Mike's Latest Blog - Was Jesus Political?

blog jesus politicalPolitics shape societies, and faith impacts politics. You cannot separate the two. The Roman government saw Jesus' movement as a threat to the "Pax Romana" or the political order of the day. Jesus' message of peace through an alternative means to military might and his focus on the rights of the poor threatened a system that controlled the empire by military force and had a clearly defined social pecking order that oppressed the poor, accepted slavery as the norm and persecuted the alien. The title of "Lord" that he encouraged among his disciples was a title of authority reserved for a political appointee like a judge or ultimately reserved for the office of Caesar, who represented the supreme-highest authority. His affirmation that he was in fact the King of the Jews to the Roman official Pilate placed him in the perceived position of a rebel leader (like the Maccabees of an earlier time who led a revolt and gained Jewish freedom from Rome for a brief period). Jesus' statement that "his kingdom was not of this world" did not mean that it didn't have political consequence but that it was based in radically different values.....to read Mike's blog in full, visit www.mikeslaughter.com/blog.
