Just as seemingly every great movie has had a great soundtrack. Everyone who has achieved great things for God has had a song or tuning fork for their soul that kept them on track and able to perform at a maximum level for God’s kingdom.
- What is a favorite soundtrack or song that inspires you? Why does it inspire you?
- What is the fire or song in your life that constantly keeps you moving forward?
Read Psalm 40:1. The first thing this song in your heart does is to give you determination to persevere. Just as David, who wrote this psalm, didn’t give up or sit idly by when he was being hunted down King Saul, but trusted in the promises and power of God, your heart’s song can help you persevere through any discouragement or struggle you face. Your song literally can tune out those things that seek to rob you of your life purpose.
- Do you have a determined personality or one that gives up too easily? Explain.
- Describe a time you persevered through a struggle in your life? Where did you get the strength and what happened?
Read Psalm 40:2 and II Chronicles 20:20-22. Not only does this song in your heart give you determination but it also brings you deliverance from the pit. Whenever God has great purpose for your life don’t be surprised if you experience some time in the pit. Your pit may include doubt, or depression, pain or problems, but God uses these times to train us for great things. It is your song that helps you get out of those dark places and into the victory that is yours in Jesus Christ. We should never let the pit change our song but our song will change the atmosphere and outcome of our pit.
- Name a pit you’ve been in recently. How did you get out of the pit and what did you learn?
- What situation or pit are you facing today that you need to strive and sing through?
Read Psalm 40:3 and Acts 16:25-26. Your song isn’t always necessarily about you. There are many times that people will see God in you, working through you, instead of hearing about God from you. Just like Paul and Silas in the Philippi prison, God’s working of power in your struggles becomes a mighty witness to world around you. When you realize that there is power in your song, you will learn to live out loud and it will bless others around you. Whatever you do, don’t let anyone or anything steal your song.
- How have you seen the power of God demonstrated through the life of another person? What did you learn?
- How has God demonstrated power to others through one of your life struggles?
- What song do you need to sing today to allow God’s power to be shown in your life?
- How can you be a better witness to God’s working power in your life for others to see?
