Read Psalm 127:3. There are several defining moments in life and one of them is having children. The Bible reminds us that children are a gift from God and even if you don’t have children you are called to have a healthy and Godly impact on their lives.
- What have been some defining moments in your family life?
- Did you learn about faith in Jesus as a child? Who first taught you about Jesus?
Ephesians 6:1 & Proverbs 22:6. Even though parenting is sometimes tough, it can also be most rewarding. However, most people are not given the “how to manual” when in comes to parenting them and especially so that they become healthy, godly beings. There is good news however, because God gives us specific instructions on how to raise children. And the first is to personally become a healthy role model.
- How did your parents model life for you? How has that affected your life?
- Do you think media is too often allowed to raise children in our culture? What about in your home?
Read Ephesians 6:2 & Deuteronomy 5:16. Another aspect in helping raise godly children is to try and not send mixed signals especially in terms of your relationship and dedication to God. Children learn both godly and ungodly practices from those adults that have influence on their lives. And you want to always live an honorable life so that those children can honor and obey you, thus becoming blessed in their lives as well.
- Name a godly practice you learned from your parents? What is one practice you are or will plant in your own children?
Read Ephesians 6:3 & Galatians 6:9. When you, as a parent or as a godly influence to children in your life, plant godly seeds in kids’ lives, you are sowing a future blessing. Children that have healthy role models will follow those same practices and literally become a blessing to others around them. Your sowing of good seed in kids’ lives today, will have a huge impact on the world in the future.
- Have you been inspired by the actions of child recently? What happened?
- What examples of Godly living are you instilling in the children in your life?
Read Ephesians 6:4. Finally, you are to lead by example, especially if you want children to know and understand the love and grace found in Jesus Christ. It doesn’t matter how much you have messed up in the past, or when you mess up in the future. If you consistently live the best Christian life you can, being honest in your brokenness, but always full of God’s grace, you will become the purposeful impact on the next generation, whether its your own children or the children you are called to influence for Christ.
- How will you become a more healthy role model for children in your home or in your sphere of influence?
- How can you live more purposefully to impact the children in your life?
