If you have ever asked the question “Who am I in this world?” you are not alone. But that question alone is not the right question. The right question to ask is “Who am I according to God?” In order to live out a working faith or before you can successfully put your faith into practice you’ve got to understand the kingdom in which you are working and understand the position God has placed you. Read James 1:9-11
- Have you ever asked the question “Who am I in this world?” What answer did you come up with?
- How does your knowledge of your work environment, school environment, or home environment helped you be successful?
Read Isaiah 40:12, 22, 25-26 & Isaiah 6:5. To reach that powerful place of a working humble faith you must first understand that you are small and insignificant standing next to God. Compared to the size and vastness of God created universe, you are a mere speck. But God knows each and every galaxy, star, and planet, and God knows them by name. When we forget our small place next to God we begin to believe we are far more important, far more influential, far more powerful and far more intelligent than we really are. And this leads to pride, selfishness and attempts at total control in life.
- Describe a time you did something really stupid or humbling?
- Name a time you had a reality check about your own significance? What caused you to question it?
- What regularly reminds you of God’s awesomeness? How does that affect your daily life?
Read Psalm 139:1-3, Jeremiah 1:5, & Ephesians 2:10. The good news is that even though we are insignificant next to Almighty God, we are big in God’s eyes. You were created by God, uniquely as a one of a kind masterpiece and God loves you with an intensity you can’t even understand. Not only that, but God created you on purpose, with a purpose, to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. When you understand who you are in God’s eyes it helps you discover that purpose and passion for which you were created.
- Do you consider yourself a masterpiece of God’s creation? Why or why not?
- How overwhelmingften do you think about God’s powerful and overwhelming love for you? How does that make you feel?
Read Matthew 16:18-19. It’s when you fully grasp this humility and passion from knowing your loving God that you begin to become less but impact more. God doesn’t need the powerful or influential but needs obedient faithful servants in which to build God’s kingdom. When you put aside your own pride, agendas, and desires, and allow God to use you, God will raise you up to be a difference maker in other people’s lives and in the world around you.
- Has God ever raised you up and used you to build God’s kingdom? Explain.
- Who has been a difference maker or a course changer in your life? Has God ever used you to change the direction of someone else?
- Where is God calling you to become a difference maker/kingdom builder in our community/world?
