Read Deuteronomy 30:19-20. Life is full of transitions: growing up, changing schools, deciding college and career choices, where to live, what kind of family to have, etc. Sometimes you may think that major transitions only take place during the ‘growing up’ years, but life overall is one big transition. The Israelites were making a huge transition from desert wandering to the promise land, from slavery in Egypt to a free nation, and God challenged them once again to choose whom they would be loyal and serve.
- What kind of transitions have you lived through recently? What life changes did you have to make?
- What do you hate the most about change? What about change do you actually like?
Read Deuteronomy 30:11-14; Luke 12:32; John 10:10; & Jeremiah 29:11-14. In this life everyone has decisions to make but the most important decision is either to live with God or live without God. And in choosing you ultimately are deciding to either live in God’s kingdom which is life and blessing or live in your own kingdom which apart from God is death and cursing. Sometimes you may feel it’s too hard to fully follow Jesus or really desire to do your “own thing.” And at times your may feel like you are spiritually stuck in one place not moving forward. But God continually invites you to live for God’s kingdom because that is where the blessings of true life are found.
- What is hard for you in daily following Jesus?
- Have you ever told God “it’s too hard” or “I don’t want to follow you right now?” What happened?
- Describe a time you were spiritual stuck in your walk with Christ? How did you get going again?
Read Deuteronomy 30:16. So how do you move in and for the Kingdom of God? In this passage Moses gives three kingdom living principles to practice as you fully transition into living solely for God. The first is to love the Lord your God, which in Hebrew means covenant loyalty and giving full or covenant loyalty to God means making God your number one priority, putting God above all other things.
- How do you show loyalty to God? Is it complete loyalty?
Read Romans 6:13. The second kingdom living principle is to walk in God’s ways. To receive the blessings and benefits of God’s kingdom you must choose to live within the requirements and desires of God. Too often we choose to live outside of God’s provision and blessing, choosing to go our own way settling, even robbing ourselves of all that God desires to give us.
- Describe a time you chose to live “in the backyard” instead of under the provision and blessings of God Kingdom.
- How do you currently walk in God’s way – God’s kingdom? How do you know?
The Third principle is to keep God’s commands. God’s commands for you are solely for your life and spiritual prosperity and to ignore those and even rebel against those commands can be deadly. God does everything for your ultimate benefit and keeping those commands puts you under God’s protection and life.
- What would you say to the questions, “Who is your King & What Kingdom are you living for?” Is there proof?
- Where is God daring you to move in becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ?
