:  Paralyzing Excuses
Sunday, Jan 11 2009

Many of us want our lives "fixed" but aren't really sure we want to be cured-clinging to the unholy habits that serve as our source of meaning and comfort. Jesus asks the paralyzed man at Bethesda, "Do you want to get well?" Today's question is-- Do YOU?

  1. Have you made any resolutions for this new year? In what area of your life would you like to move forward?

  2. Do you get easily frustrated when you have to work at change? What stops you from moving forward?

  3. Being honest, do you really want to be well and whole as God desires, or do you just want to be "fixed" but have things your own way?

  4. How have you sabotaged your own efforts recently in making a needed change in your life?

  5. What one habit in your life brings you the most comfort? Does this habit lead you toward a positive life change or hinder it?

  6. Name a "magic remedy" (diet pills, lottery, new relationship, get-rich-quick scheme, etc.) you have tried or thought of trying to make a change in your life instead of doing the hard work it

  7. Name a close friend or colleague who has been extremely helpful in your walk with God. Do you need to spend more time with this person?

  8. Name one specific place in your life you are willing to commit to changing. What specific action will you commit to doing to start that change? Who is one person that will walk this change with you?
