INTRO–‘You Are What You Choose’
You are a product of the choices you make, and the life you are living today is the result of literally hundreds and perhaps thousands of choices made on a daily basis. And just like a successful athlete who chooses to do the hard work it takes to succeed, you must be determined to make the right choices if you are to continue traveling down this road less traveled with Jesus.
CHOICE #1–‘Serve God’Read Joshua 24:15 & Proverbs 3:5-8
When trying to understand healthy choice making there is no better illustration in the Bible than Joshua. After Joshua brought the Israelites into the promise land by God’s miraculous power, there are still some among them that are making unhealthy choices about whom to serve and what God to follow. Joshua calls them all to accountability and says choose today whom you will serve fully knowing that the only healthy choice is serving God. In fact healthy choices and serving God are inseparable because only on God’s path will you ever overcome the problems you face and the tough life circumstances you will go through. Faith in God is that bridge that connects your limited understanding to God who knows all and understands every situation fully.
CHOICE #2–‘Follow the Spirit’Read Numbers 13:31-33 & Numbers 14:6-9
But if you choose to serve God you must move beyond your limited understanding and begin relying on the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit. Healthy choice making requires that you begin moving from your little picture view to God’s big picture understanding, emptying yourself from having to ‘know it all’ before you step out in faith choosing to do what God calls you to do. All this means you must begin being led by the Spirit and not by fear which tends to hamper your faith. Then and only then will you see God move in your life opening doors and providing resources that literally come from no where as God builds your life and uses you to build God’s kingdom.
CHOICE #3–‘Wait on God’s Timing’Read Numbers 14:42
Finally, healthy choice making means you choose to move in God’s Spirit but also in God’s timing. Making right choices is realizing that you can’t fight any of your life battles alone. You always need God’s help. Ultimately the battles that you face are not yours to fight anyway but God’s. The key to winning is to allow God to work in God’s timing as you choose to trust God in all your daily decision making.
