It's Complicated
: Lust, Love & SexSunday, May 16 2010
Created in the image of God, humans have the potential to experience powerful intimacy. Unchecked anger and lust, however, will totally eclipse all chance for healthy connections. Drawing from the Sermon On the Mount, Jesus calls us to make radical decisions regarding our own spiritual and emotional lives.
Don't let God's richest life-possibilities pass you by.
- How have you experienced the destruction of unchecked anger and/or lust coming from your own life or the life of someone you’ve trusted?
- Have you ever broken trust with someone whom you loved? What happened to that relationship?
- Do you do a good job monitoring what you watch and how you let the culture invade your spirit? What is one thing you need to “cut out”?
- Name those concrete boundaries you have in your life: your “always” and “nevers.”
- If you are single, how are you being proactive in ensuring a Christ-centered intimate relationship in the future? If you are married, how are you building a Christ-centered intimate relationship with your spouse?
- Our culture presents a much different set of sexual values than Jesus names in Matthew 5. What steps are you taking to become the person of purity God is calling you to be? What area(s) do you need to build stronger?
