Losing My Religion
: Why Pray?Sunday, Jun 20 2010
Perhaps there is no greater evidence of religion gone wrong than in the practice of prayer. Our erroneous pictures of God filter out any hope of the relationship we were meant to enjoy with our Creator. Join Mike Slaughter at the Main Campus for week2 of the journey to lose the religion -- and find the relationship. This week: Why Pray?
- Prayer is the key to having an intimate relationship with God. When is the best time of day for you to pray?
- Although praying to God can take place anytime and at any place, being intentional about eliminating distractions can be powerful. Where is the best place for you to pray without distractions?
- Jesus teaches us that God is extremely approachable and forgiving. What satisfaction do you receive knowing that the God of the universe is also your loving heavenly Father?
- It’s all about relationship. God desires to have a deep one with you. Name one way hearing from God could be clarifying for your life direction. (Consider including this in your daily prayer time.)
- Prayer is much more than a formula designed to say the right things. What can you share with God today for which you are grateful? What can you share concerning your deepest felt need?
- In our prayers we are invited to ask, seek and knock - in other words nothing is too big or too small for God to handle. Name your commitment to daily time with God as a result of this message.
