What is one problem about which you struggle to trust God? Are you ever plagued by the byproducts of trust issues, which are worry and anxiety? Jesus himself called his followers to exchange the habit of worry for the practice of confident faith in God's provision in all circumstances. Losing My Religion: Why Trust?
Main Scripture Reference - Matthew 6:25-34
Other Scripture References: I Peter 5:7; Philippians 4:6; Psalm 27:1-2, 5; Proverbs 3:5-7; Matthew 25:14-30
INTRO–‘Do You Worry?’
Have you ever spent at least one minute to long worrying about something? The obvious answer of course is yes and although some worrying can cause you to make needed changes and produce better outcomes, most worrying basically robs you of the God potential in your life. Worrying represents some form of fear or lack of trust in God and one way you miss the mark in following Christ is spending too much time thinking about or pursuing things God has already promised to provide.
POINT 1–‘God Cares’Read Matthew 6:25-34 & I Peter 5:7
In this passage in Matthew, Jesus tells you not once or twice, but three times not to worry about your life. He specifically points out to not worry about food or clothing, the basic needs of life, and in doing so wants you to know that you can trust in God because God cares about you. No matter what you need or what challenges you might face, God is bigger and stronger and never out matched. Even if you are facing the strongest of enemies in your life, your help comes from God because God is infinitely stronger than anything you will ever face. Read Philippians 4:6 & Psalm 27:1-2, 5
POINT 2–‘God Knows’Read Proverbs 3:5-7
One of the reasons why you might worry is because you feel like God doesn’t really know what is truly going on in your life at any given moment. You are wired to relax when things make sense but feel anxious when you don’t know the final outcome of a particular threat or issue in your life. Whatever you think or feel, you need to know this deep down in your heart. God is all-knowing and knows everything about you and every situation you face. But God is also all-powerful knowing the future, the outcome, and the proper timing of everything. God is in control and because of that you can and need to trust in God!
POINT 3 –‘God Provides’Re-read Matthew 6:33 & Read Matthew 25:14-30
Not only does God know all about you and care deeply for you, God desires to provide for you. Jesus says that God will give you all the things you need and more, just seek God in all your ways and trust him. What God wants to do is move you away from a fear based religion to a faith based relationship where you live in total trust in who God is and what God can and will do in your life. God will provide.
