YOUR TREASURE–Read Matthew 6:19-21 & Jeremiah 2:13
Religious hypocrisy is not necessarily intentional but often can blind you to the disconnect between your beliefs and your actions. In today’s passage Jesus makes a clear connection between what you value to how you live emphasizing that true life priority is measured by time and possessions. If you want to know your true priorities and values look at where you spend your time and what you have collected over the years. The problem is that our Christian culture has mixed spiritual truth with secular materialism. You might say you treasure God and your faith more than anything, but then spend most of your time in pursuit of temporary things instead of those things that last forever.
YOUR LIFE FOCUS –Read Matthew 6:22-23
The second aspect of proper priorities is life focus. The focus of your life will determine who you become and what you do. The desires that possess you and take possession of your will, will become your life focus. There is a difference however between life interests and kingdom desires, between life interests and life passions. Most life interests are temporary in nature, like owning a nice car, traveling, or learning how to cook. But a life passion which is God given and driven brings meaningful purpose which results in life changing kingdom building actions. These are the eternal treasures that last forever and which Jesus is calling you to pursue
YOUR MONEY –Read Matthew 6:24; Matthew 23:23-24 & Matthew 19:16-24
Finally, how you deal with money in your life ultimately reveals what you trust and where you allegiance lies. In understanding the principle of giving, Jesus is clear that you need to trust in God solely or you will begin to place your faith in what you have and how you get it. The problem with many Christians is that they believe in God’s principles but put their faith in the ways of the world. For most the idea of tithing and giving back to God an even higher percentage doesn’t seem to make sense or can’t fiscally be done. But God says it does make sense, the more you give the more you trust and the more you trust the more God will bless you to continue investing in God’s work. God calls you to rely on him and not your 401k because only in God will you not have to worry or fear. And God promises to always take care of you. Read Matthew 6:33 & II Corinthians 9:10-12
