Jesus promised us "life to the full" but some of us are directionally challenged- looking for LIFE in all the wrong places. Matthew 7 calls us away from the couch of our mis-directed lives to an aggressive pursuit of the reality of this God-dream: Ask - Seek - Knock.
Find your own way into connection and community at both our Ginghamsburg and Fort McKinley campuses this weekend as together we experience Jesus' life-giving words from his Sermon on the Mount, a powerful call to LIVE THE LIFE.
Main Scripture Reference - Matthew 7:7-12
Other Scripture References: Philippians 4:6-7; Hebrews 11:1
INTRO–‘Broken Promises?’Read Matthew 7:7-8
As we continue to learn how to 'live the life' and fulfill God dreams, Jesus taught that anyone who asks, seeks and knocks will receive. However, right away this seems to be problematic because your experience with prayer no doubt doesn’t match up with these definitive statements. Does God break his promise to you in this passage when you pray for something but don’t get it, or when you ask God for one thing and you somehow get something else? The problem isn't God, the problem is us. Usually when trying to understand this Scripture we mistake our will for God’s will, and in not seeking God we get off the path God has for us.
ASK –‘God, Not Things’Read Philippians 4:6-7
Often what happens is that most people ask questions but look for answers in the wrong places and get caught up in the trap of asking things to fulfill what only God can. Things can’t give you life because they are only temporary. Only the Holy Spirit can give life because the Spirit is life itself. When you ask, ask God, and when you ask God ask for God’s assistance and guidance and God will provide.
SEEK–‘God Visions’Read Hebrews 11:1
Asking God is the first step to living the life but there is more, you need to begin seeking God to formulate a daily vision for your life. Seeking and formulating a God vision is all about the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen. In order to really understand the life that God has in store for you, you must continually seek God on a daily basis to share and show you what it is and where he is calling you to use your gifts and passions. If you will do that God will continually place you in the best position to fulfill all those God dreams he has for you.
