For anyone who's ever needed to know they're here for a purpose, for anyone who's ever asked if God is good for his promise, hope is on the way. This weekend we welcome back Mike Bowie, former Ginghamsburg pastor and beloved overcomer. It's a don't-miss-worship gathering as we continue our late summer series.

Sermon Questions

Embrace Life

God starts our story by choice with the intention to help us rather than harm us, but that doesn’t mean our life will be painless. So, every day we need to live by choice with the intention of embracing our story.  Daily devotionals that accompany each day's reading are also available on Facebook. They are created by a great Ginghamsburg unpaid servant team. You do not have to be a Facebook user to access them. View here.

Day 1: Read Psalm 118
Have you spent time thanking God for your life and story? If yes, what spurred the gratitude? If no,  why not? How does Psalm 118 convey a moment, a purpose and a passion in Christ? How do you embrace life in those three ways? Rewrite Psalm 118 for your own story.

Day 2: Read Jeremiah 1:4-9; 29:10-14
Do you believe Jeremiah 1:5 applies to you? Why/why not? Is there a part of your start in life that leads you to a sense of unworthiness (see Jeremiah 1:6)? What might God say to you (see Jeremiah 1:7)? How does Jeremiah 29:10-14 encourage you now as you reflect on the start of your story?

Day 3: Read John 15:1-16
How are we connected to God, the vine, at the start of our story? (Day 2) With purposeful grafting into the vine, what becomes a requirement to grow? Recall when you were spiritually unhealthy/healthy. What made the difference? How can you improve your health today?

Day 4: Read John 16:16-33
Compare the seasons of grief and joy mentioned by Jesus. Name some other seasons of life. Recall seasons you’ve experienced. What future joy is Jesus promising the disciples? Is that promise for you also? Why? How do all your seasons create embraceable life growth?

Day 5: Read Romans 8:18-39
What trials have you faced and might you face? Is anything off limits in this world? Do you complain at your life’s trials? Why? Can these trials separate us from the promised season of joy (Day 4)?

Day 6: Read Philippians 1:3-11; 27-30
How do verses 3-8 encourage you to embrace life as you age? Consider verses 27-30. Even though Christ will work in us and mature us, will our life get easier? What should we expect? Have you ever prayed verses 9-11 for someone else? Pick someone to pray that for today.

Day 7: Read Romans 8:1-17
Is your past story your future? How can you share your story without feeling condemnation? Have you kept a trial a secret that could be shared to help someone else embrace their story? Write a list of action steps to share with a friend that could help you embrace life.
