Sermon Questions

Questions to go Deeper

“Obedience” has never sounded particularly exciting, but when faced with the worst possible life-scenario, Mary discovered that obedience was really just saying a courageous YES to God - opening the door to new possibilities and moving out into the miraculous. This week say “Yes” to God’s new possibilities in your life!  Daily devotionals that accompany each day's reading are also available on Facebook. They are created by a great Ginghamsburg unpaid servant team. You do not have to be a Facebook user to access them. View here.

MONDAY: Philippians 2:12-13
What does it mean to be obedient? What is God asking you to be obedient to
do? Write out a prayer asking God to help you say yes to God every day this

TUESDAY: John 5:16-23
Jesus understood obedience as an opportunity for God (The Father) to do a
miracle through him. Do you believe God can do a miracle through you? What
do you need to do today to give God space in your life to do that miracle?

WEDNESDAY: Luke 1:26-38
What news does the messenger of God give Mary? How does she respond?
What is God telling you today? How are you going to respond?

THURSDAY: Luke 1:46-55
Why is Mary singing? What does she say in this song? Mary does not have the
easiest life. What hard situation in your life do you need to give God thanks for?

FRIDAY: Luke 2:1-20
It’s Jesus’ Birthday! Merry Christmas! What happens in this story? Who are
Jesus’ first visitors? How are you going to celebrate Jesus’ birthday today?
Spend time with someone today sharing how following Jesus has changed
your life.

SATURDAY: Psalm 42
It’s the day after Christmas, and it can leave us feeling empty. How does the
writer of this Psalm deal with depression, grief and fear? What about you?
How do you deal with depression, grief and fear? Pray this Psalm out loud.

SUNDAY: Philippians 2:14-15
Do you ever have a bad attitude? What do people experience when they
experience you every day? Do you see yourself as a child of God? Commit to
treating yourself and others as children of the living God.
