Questions to go Deeper

Pushing away from its early beginnings, Christianity has become painfully complicated. We’ve added rules, systems and strategies, but Jesus’ original mandate was embarrassingly simple: love your neighbor. Daily devotionals that accompany each day's reading are also available on Facebook. They are created by a great Ginghamsburg unpaid servant team. You do not have to be a Facebook user to access them. View here.

MONDAY: Matthew 22:34-40
Who is your neighbor? Is it easy for you to love your geographic neighbors? What are the challenges? Do you know your neighbors’ names? Pray for the eight houses/apartments/living spaces closest to you.

TUESDAY: Acts 17:24-28
Who gave you life? What about every other human being on the face of the planet? What does the Bible say about our relationship with God? Why does that matter when it comes to loving our neighbors?

WEDNESDAY: Luke 19:1-10
Jesus spent time with some interesting people. Who are the interesting people in your neighborhood? Do you struggle to invite some folk into your home? What keeps you from befriending your neighbors?

THURSDAY: 2 Kings 2:19-22
Elijah asked for a new bowl. Have you or your neighbors asked to borrow anything? Do you share any resources with your neighbors (ladders, snow blowers, sugar, etc.)?

FRIDAY: Luke 11:37-44
Jesus had intentional dining practices. Who gets invited to your table? Who does not get invited? What are some ways that you could make room for your neighbors at your table?

SATURDAY: Acts 1:1-8
Pastor Mike talked about how it was easier for him to “neighbor” people in Sudan than the neighbors that live on his street. Do you face the same struggle? If your neighborhood is your Jerusalem, what do you know about your neighborhood? What do you see? Where do you see God? What breaks God’s heart?

SUNDAY: Galatians 5:13-15
What did Paul say was the greatest commandment? Are you feuding with any of your neighbors? What neighbors are difficult to get along with?
