Searching for our identity outside the relentless love of our heavenly parent is an exercise in futility... but we all do it. We run toward the acceptance of others, the empty promises of materialism and the rigidity of religion. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. taught that Jesus' message is essentially this: everyone, no matter how far we run from God, can be transformed by God's love.

How is God the Father described in these verses? Who are we in light of them?

In this passage Jesus rebukes the religious legalism found in the older brother of the Prodigal Son parable. What are Jesus’ specific rebukes? Do any apply to you?

FRIDAY: John 13:34-35 & 1 John 4:7-21
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” What does this mean for your life?
