Todd Michael Kress, 25, of Denver, Colorado, formerly of Laura (Darke County), died Nov. 30, 2001, following an auto accident near Arvada, Colo. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Don Kress. Survivors include his parents, Bruce and Yvonne (Arella) Kress; two sisters, Bonnie Kress of Wisconsin and Amy Kress, at home; maternal grandparents, Evelyn and Peter Arella, of Surprise, Ariz.; paternal grandmother, Joan Kress of Greenville; aunts and uncles, Ann Arella of Mahwah, N.J., Terry and Diane Kress of Laura and Annette and Michael Brehm of Arcanum; cousins and many friends.
Todd was a counselor for Royal Family Kids Camp, a ministry for abandoned and neglected children in the foster care system. Family and friends say he fell in love with the Lord when he was young. "He just had a burning passion to love God." Prior to moving to Colorado he was extremely active in "The Gathering" ministry. Todd was even involved in the early planning stages of the ministries beginning. He conducted many leadership studies for the Next Level Church in Wheatridge, Colorado, which sponsors Royal Family Kids Camp. He also was a substitute teacher. Helping teens was one of his passions.
His other passion is being outdoors. He fell in love with the Colorado scenery when he moved there 2 1/2 years ago. Todd even slept outside to prepare himself for winter camping. There is no doubt that he used his time outdoors to talk to and listen to Jesus. In a post card to friends he wrote:
Greeting from California. All of you have been on my heart since I have been here. I am here for just a few days. The reason I am here is to get away from normal life and work in Colorado – to get a tan – to swim in the ocean, but also to spend some time with Jesus refocusing and reviewing my priorities in life.
Todd was not satisfied with learning about God. He was driven to also "know" the living God.
I have really been convicted during the study of the word that my life does not measure up to the standard and that all my study gives me pride and knowledge of God's Word but there is little transformation. ...So I have decided to talk with Jesus each day setting aside a time just to pour out my heart before Him...
Todd did not live his life unexamined or for himself. He was an authentic Christian who lived as a servant for the Lord. He will truly be missed.
