Trusting God Through Every Season:
Tom Holl’s Story At People of the Burg, we love sharing stories that reveal how God is moving in everyday lives—and Tom Holl’s story is one of deep faith, resilience, and learning to trust God through every season. Tom’s faith journey began early. Raised in a family of strong believers, church was a regular part of his childhood. But life shifted quickly when, at just 11 years old, he began working alongside his dad at the family business. Growing up in an adult world at such a young age shaped him—but it also hardened him. That hardness only deepened as life demanded more. When his father suffered a heart attack, Tom stepped in to run the business, working long hours to support his family. The cost was high. He lost his marriage, left school, and carried the weight of responsibility largely on his own.
Yet even in those difficult years, God was still at work—quietly preparing Tom’s heart for something more. Everything began to shift when Tom met Pam. Her joy and energy were the opposite of his own, and through her, Tom found himself invited back into church.
One Sunday, everything changed. During a sermon, Tom found himself at the altar—unsure how he even got there. When it was his turn to speak, he simply said, “I need more.” And God met him in that moment.
From that day forward, Tom’s life was transformed. His anger gave way to peace. His heart softened. His faith came alive with a passion that was undeniable. What had once been missing was now found in a relationship with Jesus.
Faith in the Midst of Loss
Tom and Pam built a beautiful life together over 46 years of marriage. But one of the most profound chapters of Tom’s story came through deep loss. After a routine medical procedure led to unexpected complications, Pam passed away. It was a devastating time—but even in that grief, Tom experienced the nearness of God in powerful and undeniable ways. Pam had shared a vision of a bright, beautiful light and what felt like a glimpse of heaven. And in the days that followed, Tom’s daughter witnessed something extraordinary in the sky—a moment that brought peace in the midst of heartbreak. For Tom, these moments weren’t coincidences. They were reminders: God was there. Pam was safe. And their family would be okay.
Seeing God Show Up Again and Again
Tom’s story doesn’t stop there. In the years since, he has continued to see God’s faithfulness in tangible ways. When a severe infection threatened his leg, doctors prepared him for amputation—but one doctor chose a different path. After a long and difficult recovery, Tom still has his leg today. More recently, his daughter faced a frightening cancer diagnosis. But after surgery and testing, the results came back clear—what appeared to be cancer wasn’t. Time and time again, Tom has witnessed God show up.
Looking Back to See God’s Faithfulness
One of the most powerful insights Tom shared came from reflecting on his life as a whole. He said that in the hardest moments, it’s easy to ask, “Where are you, God?” But when he looks back, he can clearly see that God was there—every single time. And that’s the message he holds onto after 77 years of life: Trust God. Even when you can’t see him in the moment, he is present. Even in the hardest seasons, he is working. If you look for him, you’ll begin to see—he’s been there all along.
Tom’s story is a beautiful reminder that faith isn’t about avoiding hardship—it’s about trusting that we are never alone in it.
