Step 1: Discover Your Gifts

Step 2: Dive Deeper with Trusted Resources

If you’re still figuring out where God is leading you, consider diving into these powerful books or similar studies:

  • Dare to Dream (Mike Slaughter) – Helps you uncover God’s bigger dream for your life and move from passive faith to active discipleship.
  • Purpose Driven Church (Rick Warren) – A foundational book on how every believer plays a vital role in the church and how to find your purpose.
  • Ultimately Responsible (Sue Nilson Kibbey) – Challenges believers to take ownership of their faith and leadership, stepping into their God-given calling.
  • A Follower’s Life (Carolyn Slaughter) – A discipleship journey that moves believers from casual faith to deep commitment.

Step 3: Engage in Community and Growth

Ginghamsburg offers classes to help you discern your gifts and find your place:

  • Rooted – A 10-week journey designed to help you grow spiritually and discover how God has uniquely called you to serve.
  • New Members Class – Serving is a requirement of membership at Ginghamsburg, alongside regular worship, giving, and life group participation. This class helps you step into those rhythms with purpose.

Step 4: Embrace the Life Rhythm of a Disciple

At Ginghamsburg, we follow a long-standing life rhythm built on three core movements:

  • Cell – Cell, or small, community called “life groups”
  • Celebration – Come together in worship to celebrate what God is doing.
  • Call – Serve out of your giftedness and calling.

It’s also reflected in how we talk about discipleship:

  • Bring others into a relationship with Jesus.
  • Grow as disciples in community.
  • Serve out of your giftedness and call.

No matter where you are on the discipleship journey—Clueless, Curious, Convinced, or Committed—the ultimate goal is to follow in Jesus’ footsteps: self-sacrifice for the sake of others.

Step 5: Take Initiative – See a Need, Fill a Need

We believe every person is called to serve. If you’re not ready to go all-in, it’s ok to take it one step at a time. The step ladder of servitude looks like this:

🔹 Consumer – Those who need service.
🔹 Volunteer – Those who make convenient contributions to service.
🔹 Servant – Those who make sacrifices to serve others.
🔹 Leader – Those who lead teams of volunteers and train them to become servants, who can ultimately lead others to Jesus.

Our challenge to you: Don’t wait. Take the initiative.

Step 6: Own Your Calling – The Priesthood of All Believers

Serving isn’t just the job of the church staff. Ministry belongs to all of us.
